SMITH, Lucy AnnDecember 11, 1929 - Port Douglas, BCNovember 29, 2014 - New Westminster, BCOur sister, mother, auntie, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend Lucy Ann Smith of Burnaby, BC was tragically struck and killed on a marked crosswalk by a motor vehicle on Saturday, November 29, 2014. Lucy succumbed to her injuries at 6:35 p.m. after family gathered around her. Lucy never had the chance to retire at the age of 84, nor did she want to. Kneeling by her bedside and holding her hand I told her it was okay to let go, that it was her time to finally rest. She raised 13 children and was currently raising her two granddaughters that are now 16 and 17. She raised them from birth. Lucy is survived by her children Vincent Theodore, Elizabeth Jane, Linda Ann, Robert Clarence, Kenneth Richard, Benjamin Lindsay, Annette Karen, Douglas Montgomery, Leslie John, Ronald Lawrence, Roy Edward and Lorne Dryden. She was a proud, strong grandmother to 25 grandchildren and great- grandmother to 26 great-grandchildren. Her Siblings include her best friend and sister Keely Paul, Tommy Paul, Clarence Paul, Flo, Angus and Herman. Lucy was predeceased by her common- law husband John Lawrence Nelmes in 2002 and her son William Jeffrey Smith in 2001. Relatives and friends are encouraged to pay their respects and attend our time to reflect, share memories and enjoy food and beverages this Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Kearney Columbia-Bowell Chapel at 219, 6th Street in New Westminster BC.
