She was born Feb. 14, 1945 in Atlanta, GA to the late Greenville Darius Wood Jr. and Sarah Redmond Wood. She was married to James Clifton Smith, and this year is Jim and Louise's 50th wedding anniversary, with Jim celebrating by giving a love note card to his wife each day. Her most cherished role was as Grandma to her five grandchildren: Mike and Mary Dee's children in Raleigh (Cameron, Madison and Redmond) and Matt and Sherese's children in Charlotte (Hank and Sally.) Louise was known by all to love first and foremost her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She spent her time over the decades involved with her churches (Bethlehem United Methodist in Thornton, PA and Isle of Hope United Methodist in Savannah, GA.) She was passionate about mission outreach, women's Bible study, and her numerous leadership roles. She was involved as a participant, teacher and leader for Community Bible Study. In addition to her husband, sons, and grandchildren, she is survived by her sisters, Betty Wood Getgood of Floyd, VA and Rachel Wood Henningsen of Hot Springs, SD. She is also survived by Jim's brother, Don Smith, and their parents, Clif and Mary George Smith, all of Greenville SC. A worship service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 7, at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, followed by a time for the family to receive friends at the adjacent fellowship hall. A private family burial will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 5, at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Isle of Hope UMC Mission Fund, 412 Parkersburg Road, Savannah, GA, 31406 or Community Bible Study, Fisher Project, 790 Stout Road, Colorado Springs CO 80921.
