Obituary of Louise Jackson

Died July 25, 2011 Louise K. Jackson Lou-ise K. Jackson died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 89 on Monday, July 25, in Austin, Texas. Before moving to Austin, Louise and her husband Bill lived in Huntsville for 45 years. Louise was born in September of 1921 and was raised in the small town of Greifenhagen, Germany, located in the state of Pomerania near the Baltic Sea. Louise had many fond memories of her life during that time and worked as an assistant to a physician as a young adult. Living in Germany, Louise and her family were deeply affected by WWII, declared in 1939, and in 1945, her family was forced to leave its home as Allied Forces invaded Germany. The terror of experiencing WWII for six years took its toll on Louise. However, she had many good memories and events in the aftermath. She was able to find her family that had scattered to Sweden and other areas of West Germany. In 1947, she met Bill Jackson, who was serving in the U.S. Army during the Allied Forces' occupation. They were married in Landsberg, Germany, in November 1948 and moved to the United States. Louise already knew the English language, which could be attributed to her good German education, and took her oath for U.S. citizenship in 1954. Louise's husband, Bill, continued his career in the military, and she moved with him to Texas, Arkansas, Ohio, Morocco, and Louisiana. In each of his tours of duty, she worked as a bookkeeper and accountant. Like Bill, she had a remarkable work ethic. When Bill retired in 1963, they moved to Huntsville. She spent the rest of her career working for SCI and retired as a highly respected employee in 1986. During her career at SCI, she was an active member of the National Management Association and received several awards for outstanding service. She was a very active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Huntsville and had many friends. She was also active in the WWII War Brides' Association, Pearl Harbor Survivors' Association, Meals on Wheels and several other charities. She loved to entertain family and friends and was a gourmet cook and baker. In October 2009, Louise and Bill moved to Austin to be near their family. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Jackson; brother, Karl Steller; mother, Clara Steller; and father, Friedrich Steller. She is survived by her daughter, Sigrid Clift and husband Bill of Austin; grandson, Maj. James L. Clift of Fort Knox, Ky.; granddaughter, Brook Davis of Austin; and five great-grandchildren. Louise will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Louise loved animals, especially dogs.
