LOUISE HUNT HARRIS Apalachin, N.Y. and Kiawah Is., S.C.Louise Hunt Harris, 73, left her home in Apalachin to enter the place reserved for her in Heaven on Sunday, March 18, with strength and grace so characteristic of her life, and guided by the loving care of family and friends. Louise was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Bertha Hunt, of Dryden, N.Y., and her father-in-law, Neal Harris, Binghamton. Her husband of 52 years, R. Dwight Harris, Apalachin, and their family survive her; Stephen and Mary Jo Harris, Tyler, Gavin and Lauren, Cooperstown, N.Y., Kevin and Francine Harris, Jason, Jessica, Ryan and Kevin, Vestal, Calvin and Michele Harris, Taylor, Cayla, Jenna and Tanner, Empire Lake, Spencer, N.Y.; her brothers, Calvin and Sandy Hunt, Cortland, Larry and Eleanor Hunt, Black Mountain, N.C.; her mother-in-law, Ruth Harris, Binghamton; brothers-in-law and wives, Douglas and Martha Harris, Kent and Joanne Harris, Keith and Gina Harris, Brackney, Pa., Merry Harris and John Perticone, Binghamton, N.Y.; many loving nephews and nieces together with a host of devoted friends. Louise graduated from Cortland State Teachers College ('49). She was a member of the Sigma, Sigma, Sigma sorority, She participated with her sorority sisters in establishing a scholarship fund at her college. She initiated a women's Phys Ed program at her high school alma mater in Dryden, N.Y. She used her skills, her Christian faith and her boundless energy in her roles a parent, partner, daughter and community volunteer. She joined the Park Terrace Community United Methodist Church in 1961 and served her faith and church in many capacities during the following 40 years. Louise was a trustee and chaired The Board of Trustees, the Administrative Board and Staff-Parish Relations Committee serving on the New Sanctuary Building Committee in addition to several others. She was an officer of the United Methodist women, served on the Binghamton District Parsonage Board of Trustees as well as the United Methodist Wyoming Conference Foundation, Inc. She was a director and officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Broome. The family offers special thanks to long time friend and Hospice volunteer, Linda Chatterton for coordinating the in home care for the brief final stage of Louise's illness together with many friends and relatives who supported Louise and Dwight and their family in their around the clock vigil. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at the Park Terrace United Methodist Church on Glann Road, Apalachin, N.Y., with a reception immediately following the service. There will be no calling hours at the request of the family. Burial will be private at Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy in the name of Louise may be made to the Building Fund of Park Terrace Methodist Church, the church she served for 39 years. Arrangements are by the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main St., Johnson City, N.Y.
