Hartselle<!--Hartselle-->Funeral for Mrs. Louise Smith of Hartselle will be today, April 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Hartselle with Dr. Jeff Redmond officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore. Mrs. Smith, widow of Homer Alton Smith, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born in Morehead, Miss., on Aug. 11, 1918, to Thomas Jefferson Terrell and Alva Veona Pittman Terrell. She attended business school and later worked in Memphis at an aircraft facility during the War, then moved to Ardmore to join her cousin in the restaurant business, where she met her future husband. They had a daughter, Bobbie Jo Smith. After she and her family moved to Decatur, she started work for the Decatur City School system and later served as a cafeteria supervisor at Austinville and Nungester elementary schools. She retired to help raise her two grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was a Baptist and was an active member in the Austinville Baptist and Hartselle First Baptist churches. She was especially involved in mission activities. Louise was well-known within her family, church family and community friends to be skilled in cooking and sewing. Many people remember her unofficial "ministry" of baking loaves of homemade sourdough bread in addition to cooking delicious meals and desserts. She truly had a knack for serving others and will always be remembered for the loving kindness and hospitality she shared with everyone she met. She is preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers, and has one surviving sister, Minnie Mae McCallie, and one brother, Sanford Leroy Terrell; her daughter, Bobbie, and husband, Bob; and her grandchildren, Clay Edward Wesson and Elizabeth Anne Wesson. Pallbearers will be Steve McKee, Jim Smith, Dwight Cross, Barry Pearson, Wayne Brown, Dan Sparkman, Randy Maner and Roy Terrell.
