CARTER--Louise Cahill, of Washington, DC, died October 9, 2013. Mrs. Carter was the youngest of five children of James Augustine Cahill, M.D., and Florence McKinney Cahill, of Washington, D.C. Her father was Chief of Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital and Professor of Surgery at Georgetown University Medical School. The Cahill Medal for excellence in surgery is awarded every year to a student at Georgetown University Medical School. Mrs. Carter was educated by the nuns at the Convent of the Sacred Heart and graduated from Stone Ridge School in Bethesda, MD. She graduated from American University with a Bachelor's degree and also studied at Georgetown. In 1962 she married Warwick Montgomery Carter. Mrs. Carter lived her entire life in Washington. She spent many Summers in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, and Winters in Palm Beach, Florida. Mrs. Carter was a lifelong Francophile. She studied and spoke French and travelled to France at various times throughout her life. Her favorite place was a small village in Provence known as Ansouis. Mrs. Carter was an avid opera buff and was a long-standing member of the Board of Trustees of The Washington Opera. Mrs. Carter was a member of the Chevy Chase Club as well as the Bath and Tennis Club in Palm Beach. She was also a former member of the Sulgrave Club in Washington and of the Colony Club in New York. Her greatest passion was her family. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Warwick, who suffered from Parkinson's disease for 20 years and died in 2006. She will be remembered as a woman with a keen wit, a great sense of humor and "joie de vivre." Louise Carter was survived by her three children: Warwick Montgomery Carter, Jr., Raymond Prescott Cahill Carter, and Louise Lee Carroll Carter and four grandchildren. A funeral mass will be offered at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 1315 8th Street, NW (at 8th and N Streets) in Washington, D.C. 20001, on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Louise's memory to Immaculate Conception.
