Services for Louisa Mae Berard, the former Louisa Mae James, 70, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church No. 2 with the Rev. Lenel Watson officiating. Interment will follow in St. Matthew Cemetery.Visiting hours will be observed today from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Saturday at 7 a.m. until the time of service at Mount Olive Baptist Church No. 2.A resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Berard died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Iberia Medical Center.Mrs. Berard was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church No. 2, where she served as deaconess and she also was a member of the mission.She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Norbert Berard Sr.; three sons, Norbert Berard Jr. and wife Margaret, Hayward Berard and wife Helen all of New Iberia, and Allen Berard and wife Lola of Killeen, Texas; three daughters, Eloise Mouton, Sharon Berard and Gwen B. Hector and husband Percy all of New Iberia; a sister, Rosa M. Young of San Diego; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Mrs. Berard was preceded in death by her parents, George James Sr. and Hattie M. James; a sister, Laura Henderson; five brothers, Wilson, Ernest, Albert, Geroge Jr. and Robert James; a grandson, Damien Berard; two granddaughters, Jasmine Gabriel and Ali'Jandrae Howard; and a son-in-law, Felton Mouton.Pallbearers will be David Berard, Jesse Lee Baker, Albert Evans, Ollie Toby, Bradley Young and Alfred Evans.Honorary pallbearers will be Norbert Jr., Allen and Hayward Berard, Percy Hector, Drake Maiden, Norbert Berard III and Antonio Quetel.Fletcher Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of the arrangements.
