Obituary of Louis-Albert Roy

Louis Albert Roy Vernon Mr. Louis Albert Louie Roy, age 79, of Vernon, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare Center with his loved ones by his side. Louis was born in Utica on November 30, 1931, the son of the late Albert and Louise (Lewis) Roy. He was raised and educated locally attending T.R. Proctor High School. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict. On March 30, 1974 he wed the former Margaret Hawe with whom he shared 37 years in a marriage supported by love, respect, and an everlasting bond of family. Louie worked for the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT), but his primary employment was at Griffiss Air Force Base where he carried out his duties as an entomologist for 36 years. A leader in his vocational field, he collaborated with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and other reputable organizations on various projects. During his later years, he held a job at The Turning Stone Casino for 15 years, working his way up to the position of lead safety officer. Born during the Depression era, Louie knew the value of family bonds and an industrious work ethic. He will be remembered as an extremely capable, strong, quick-witted, man who could spin a good story. Most importantly, Louie was proud of his children and their educational accomplishments. During his spare time, he found pleasure in cultivating a vegetable garden, especially tomatoes, a hobby he shared with his wife, Maggie. He also enjoyed his occupation as an owner and trainer of horses at Vernon Downs. In his youth, he played baseball at Proctor High School where he held several records in the sport. Whether he was hard at work, recreation, or just relaxing, Louie felt peaceful and refreshed in a place that he loved the outdoors. A man of strong faith, he was a parishioner of St. Louis Gonzaga Church. Louie is survived by his wife, Margaret; his son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Michelle Roy of Springfield, Virginia; his daughter and son-in-law, Stephany and Douglas Rozsa of Connecticut; and his grandchildren, Caden, and Noelle Roy; and Ella, and Sophia Rozsa. In addition, he leaves his nieces and nephews, Nicholas and Lois Mariano, and Anita and Cy Rotundo; great-nieces and great-nephews, Salvatore Rotundo, Jr., and Nicole Rotundo; mother-in-law, Rosemary Cooper of St. Petersburg, FL; brother-in-law, Dennis Hawe of AL; uncle Charlie Lewis and his wife Agnes; and many cousins, especially Susan Spinella. He was predeceased by his sister, Thelma T.R. Roy. The family extends sincere appreciation to Louis physicians, Dr. Emile Wassel and Dr. Vigneswaran Kandiah, for their care and commitment. The family will honor and commemorate Louis life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Louis funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday morning at 11:00 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Chorbishop John D. Faris, Pastor. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service.
