Lola Mae Peters, age 88, of Laurel Hill, Fla., passed away Monday evening, April 13, 2009, at Shoal Creek Rehab in Crestview, Fla. She was born in Santa Rosa County on June 22, 1920, to Edward and Lizzie Black Ludlam and was a lifelong resident of Laurel Hill. Lola was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church of Laurel Hill, the RSVP Volunteers, and a member of the Golden Agers. Lola Mae was a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Clayton Peters; a son-in-law, Tommy Walther; and two brothers, Porter and Olin Ludlam. Lola Mae is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Walther of Baker, Fla.; a brother, Audrey Ludlam of Laurel Hill; three sisters-in-law, Birdie Adams of Florala, Ala., Willie Geohagan of Bartow, Fla., and Jewel Ludlam of Laurel Hill. Her two wonderful grandchildren also survive her, T. Dewayne Walther and Renee Walther. Numerous nieces, nephews and extended family also survive. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home. The celebration of Lola Mae's life will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at the chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike McVay and Bill Ansley officiating. Burial will follow in the Almarante Cemetery. The family would like to say a special thank you to the Shoal Creek Rehab staff and Covenant Hospice and our extended family and friends. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Laurel Hill. Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
