Lois Baker, spouse of Harvey Baker, died at 96 years old.
Memorial service for Lois Baker, 96, Lurian Street, New Smyrna Beach, who died Sunday at Oceanview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will be 11 a.m. Monday at Settle-Wilder Chapel, with the Rev. Robert C. Brown, Coronado Community United Methodist Church, officiating. Born in Lecanto, Mrs. Baker moved to Daytona Beach in 1934, later lived in Jacksonville and Winter Haven, returned to Daytona Beach in 1958, and moved to New Smyrna Beach in 2001. A graduate of the Mary Karl (now Daytona Beach Community College) nursing program, she retired after 11 years service as a licensed practical nurse from the pediatrics department of Halifax Medical Center. A member of the Lecanto Church of Christ, Mrs. Baker attended Coronado Community United Methodist Church. An avid supporter of her late husband, Harvey, who was a longtime promoter of peace and justice, she volunteered at the Volusia County Library City Island Branch for 22 years, and with the Bonner Elementary School 1st grade Right to Read Program for 16 years. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Volusia-Flagler Environmental Council and the Florida Coalition for Peace and Justice. A music lover, she enjoyed symphony concerts as well as reading, gardening and crocheting. Above all, she was a devoted wife, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Survivors include a daughter, Sonya Guidry, with whom she lived; sister, Tamsy Maynard, Lecanto; brother-in-law, Cecil Baker and wife, Doris, Baldwin, Md.; daughter in law, Judy Baker, Tampa; grandchildren, Aimee Counts and husband, Richard, Atlanta, Lindee Edwin Baker, Orlando, Chris Guidry and wife, Cheri, Edgewater, Tamara O'Dell and husband, Will, Merritt Island, and Stephen Guidry and wife, Jennifer, Merritt Island; and 11 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Deena, Andrew, Cody, Marissa, Chryssha, Cassandra, Ricky, Ryan, MacKenzie and Jonah. Preceded in death by son, Douglas Allen Baker, and husband, Harvey Granville Baker, in 2001. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Bonner Elementary School Reading is Fundamental Program, 868 George W.
