He was born in Hampton County, SC and moved to Savannah in 1958 from Ridgeland, SC. He retired from Savannah Electric and Power Company after 32 years of service. He was a US Navy veteran having served during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion post 135, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, and a former member of the Pope Hunting Club. Mr. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth, the Pioneer Sunday School Class and was a past Deacon. He is survived by his wife of 54 year, Frances Jarrell Smith; three sons and a daughter -in-law, Michael Dale Smith of Pt. Wentworth, Roger Arnold Smith of Rincon, Carl Lloyd and Dana Smith of Guyton; three brothers, Fred Smith ofHardeeville, SC, Jake E. Smith of Hampton, SC, Harold Smith of Grays, GA; four sisters, Mary Mitchell of Sun City, SC, Lois Chassereau of North Augusta, Frances Patton of Savannah, Dot Cope of Beaufort, SC; six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Memorial contribution may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation or the First Baptist Church of Pt. Wentworth. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fairhaven Funeral Home. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Pt. Wentworth with Rev. Sam Self officiating. Burial: Hillcrest West Cemetery.
