BANGOR - Linda (Clapp) Stone, 62, died peacefully in her sleep Thursday Oct. 6, 2011, at a Bangor hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 29, 1949, in Milo, daughter of Walter and Ivolene (Boobar) Clapp. Linda grew up in Maxfield and was a graduate of Penobscot Valley High School. She also graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing. She applied her degree working at the convalescent center and Eastern Maine Medical Center for 26 years. On Nov. 29, 1969, she married Randy Stone, who predeceased her May 2, 2006. Linda loved family gatherings and working in her flowerbeds. She enjoyed traveling, Red Sox games, and interacting with her five birds. She will always be remembered for being a wonderful mother, nana, daughter, sister and friend, as well as her fun-loving happy personality, and anyone who knew her loved her smile and good nature. She was determined even through all of life's struggles and she always put other people ahead of her own needs. In addition to her mother, Linda is survived by her children, Karen Halloran and her husband, Alfred, of Hudson and Adam Stone of Old Town; sister, Cathy Pingree and her husband, Sewall, of Kingfield; brother, Kenneth Clapp of Maxfield; granddaughter, Alicia Halloran of Hudson; nieces and nephews, Amanda Pingree, Sterling Pingree, Amy Carson, Matthew Clapp, Holly Shields and Amanda Higgins; aunts and uncles; mother-in-law, Patricia Higgins of Corea; and brother-in-law, AJ Higgins and his wife, Diane, of Manchester. She was predeceased by her father. Friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. After the services, relatives and friends are welcome to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
