Obituary of Linda-Irene Carter


Linda Irene "Fritz" Chance Carter, 90, passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2010. She was born March 28, 1920 to Jane Elizabeth Tiller Chance and William Jerome Chance. She is survived by two sons, Patrick Carter (Patricia) of Townsend, Ga. and Gregory Garter of Panama City, Fla.; one granddaughter, Allison Carter-Gallardo (Dabby) of Panama City, Fla.; and two grandsons, Steven Carter (Leslie) of North Las Vegas, NV and Major Jason Carter, US Army - Iraq (Candice) of Gadsden, Ala. Linda is also survived by her sister, Marion Chance Walsingham of Panama City, Fla. and six "little angels" who are Great Grandchildren, Rebekah, Madison, Sara, Rosie, Luke and Aryas.She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Milton Grant Carter; her parents; two brothers, Edmond Chance and Glavis Tiller; two sisters, Jane Elizabeth Chance Bruner and Oletha Chance; and two grandsons, Reginald Grant Carter and Gregory Grant Carter.Linda retired from the Navy Mine Defense Lab, Panama City, Fla. with 20 years of service.She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Panama City and the St Andrews Chapter 223 of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a 60 year member of OES, served two years as Worthy Matron, served many other stations, and was Grand Martha of OES Grand Chapter of FL in 1991 - 1992. One of her great joys in later life was getting to be a Grand Officer with her sister, Marion, who was Worthy Grand Matron of Florida.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 – 8 p.m.Active pallbearers will be Steven P. Carter, Dabby Gallardo, Mike Walsingham, Johnny Bruner, Bobby Joe Phillips, and Jimmy Jones.
