Mrs. Lillie Ruth Ligon Williams of Greenville departed this life Jan. 11, 2007, in Oakmont West Nursing Center.Born Sept. 8, 1913, the daughter of the late Lillie Chaney and Caine Ligon Sr. She was a graduate of Sterling High School and a devoted member of Springfield Baptist Church. She returned to Greenville in 1978, after retiring from Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City.Upon her return to Greenville, she worked tirelessly toward the betterment of her community and the city of Greenville. She received numerous honors and awards in acknowledgment of her volunteer efforts.Lillie Ligon Williams was the last of her immediate family of five brothers and four sisters. She is survived by a host of family members, including nieces Marie Sullivan and Lillie Ann Phelps of Greenville.Services will be Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at 1:30 p.m., at Springfield Baptist Church, with the burial in Gethsemane Church Cemetery.
