Lillie Ball Green, age 85, widow of Walter Vernon Green, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006, in Hendersonville, N.C.Born in Henderson County, N.C., on Aug. 6, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Thurmond and Pearl Baynard Ball. Left a young widow with two sons to raise in 1955, Lillie went back to school and became a licensed practical nurse. After 23 years, she retired from Transylvania Community Hospital in Brevard, N.C., in 1985. She then worked part-time as a nurse at College Walk in Brevard, N.C., until 1990.She is survived by two sons and their wives, Charles Robert and Barbara Green of Marietta, S.C., and Raymond and Carolyn Green of Williamsburg, Va.; two grandsons, Scott Green and Daniel Green; a stepgranddaughter, Sarah Carmichael; two stepgrandsons, Jared and Johathan Breeden; a brother, LaFoy Ball; two sisters, Rosella Day and Jeanette White; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.Funeral services for Ms. Green will be held today, May 20, 2006, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, Brevard, N.C. Rev. Charles Pierson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery.
