Wright, Lillian and Donald PALM HARBOR, Fla. Lillian (Kendall) Wright, 79, of Palm Harbor, died February 8, 2007, in Tampa. Her beloved husband of 61 years, Donald Whitney Wright, 82, died April 18, 2007, in St. Petersburg. Both died of injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle in Tarpon Springs, Fla. on January 23, 2007. Lillian was born March 14, 1927, the daughter of Joseph and Henrietta (Bauer) Kendall. She graduated from Roessleville High School in Colonie. Donald, (better known as Whitney by many of his family and local friends) was born April 23, 1924, the son of Franklin N. and Lorena (Moore) Wright. A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, he was a ranger in World War II, where he was taken prisoner and held in Germany 1944-45. Soon after his release, Whitney and Lillian were married on December 15, 1945. Donald (Whitney) graduated from Springfield College, Mass. (BA-1949, MA-1950). He was hired at VA hospitals in Memphis, Nashville and East Orange, N.J. In 1956, he accepted a position as associate research scientist with N.Y.U. Prosthetic Devices Study. He finished course requirements for a Ph.D. degree at N.Y.U. In 1963, he rejoined the VA as a research physiologist in N.Y.C. where he remained until retirement. Together they settled in West Orange, N.J. Lillian worked at Merriam-Webster in Springfield, Mass. while Donald (Whitney) was a student. More importantly, she was a homemaker. She loved her house and enjoyed interior decorating. She was an exceptional seamstress; her projects included making wedding gowns for her nieces. Donald (Whitney) was an avid reader, enjoyed history and was a NY Yankees fan. After retirement, they moved to Palm Harbor. They enjoyed spending summers close to family and friends in the Capital District. In addition to their parents, Lillian is predeceased by brothers, Henry, Joseph, Douglas and James (Louis) Kendall, and sisters, Carolyn Bergeron and Barbara Schermerhom. Together they are survived by Donald's (Whitney) brothers, Rev. Franklyn (Eleanor) Wright and David (Eleanor) Wright of Schenectady; nieces and nephews; several cousins; and many special friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Bond Funeral Home in Schenectady, N.Y. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, 1270 Belmont Ave, Schenectady, NY 12308 or to a charity of one's choice.
