Lillian Whyte April 12, 1928 - July 2, 2014 We regret to announce the death of Lillian Whyte, 86, Professor Emeritus at University of Alberta, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, on July 2, 2014. Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Sarah (McNeil) White. After graduating from Provincial Normal College in Truro in 1947, she taught school in Dominion for several years. Lillian earned a BA and BEd from St. Francis Xavier University, an MSc in Education from Fordham University, and a PhD from Columbia University. After teaching at St. Francis Xavier University, she was a professor in the educational psychology department of the University of Alberta in Edmonton from 1968 until she retired to Cape Breton in 1990, where she continued to work with UCCB, McGill, St. FX, and the Province of Nova Scotia. She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Whyte, Glace Bay, and Susan Cook, Dominion; two nieces, one nephew, four grand-nieces, and one grand-nephew. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Annie Mae Whyte. Funeral will be held at St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay, at 10:00 on Tuesday, July 8. Donations in Lillian's memory may be made to St. Eugene's Cemetery, Dominion.
