BROWN-JOHNSON, Lillian VestaOf Hendersonville NC, formerly of Murfreesboro, TN and Smyrna, TN, died November 11, 2008. Born in Davison County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Vesta Wallace Brown. Mrs. Johnson was the wife of the late Buford B. Johnson who died in 1990. She attended Rutherford County, TN schools through High School. She also attended Southern Junior College in Collegedale, TN, Madison College in Madison, TN and University of Georgia Extension in Atlanta, GA. She followed her profession of accountant and business management, working in North Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia, as well as in Tennessee until 1972. She was a member of Murfreesboro UDC Chapter No. 91, in which she held several offices; she was also a member of the granddaughter's club. She was an organizing and charter member of Stones River Daughters of the American Revolution in Smyrna, TN. She served as official hostess for Tennessee at National Congress, Washington, DC in 1970. She was one of the first 150 to become a life member of the National Society of the DAR. She served on the executive board of Sam Davis Memorial Association as treasurer for more than ten years. She and her husband were life members. She was a charter member of the Rutherford County Historical Society. She was a past member of the Oakland's Association in Murfreesboro, TN. After retiring, she became interested in genealogical research. She wrote and published "Historic Cane Ridge", a community in Davison County, TN, where her husband's family settled in 1800. She also wrote and published "My Findings Vol. I" about her father's family and later, "My Findings Vol. II" about her mother's family. All her books are available through the Rutherford County Historical Society. She was a life-long member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Thoughout her life, Mrs. Johnson was a major benefactor to the world-wide Gospel Mission of her church. She wrote "History of The Seventh-Day Adventist Church In Rutherford County, Tennessee, 1893-2000". This book is available through the Elam Road Seventh-day Adventist Church in Murfreesboro, TN. At her death, she was a life member of the Clan Maclean of Scotland (1981); the Clan Gillean, USA (1983), (Macleans, Maclaines, McClains & Related Families); the National Society of the DA and Madison College Alumni Association.
