Lillian Payne Coleman, 81, of Mount Airy passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at a local medical center.Mrs. Coleman was born in Hall County, on Nov. 12, 1929, to the late John Garney and Zora Isabella Carrol Payne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Lamar Coleman Sr.; son, Louis Ronnie Coleman; two brothers; one sister; a grandson, Clayton Lee Coleman; and one great-grandson, Andrew Reese Coleman. Mrs. Coleman was a member of Glade Creek Baptist Church. She was a licensed practical nurse and a private duty nurse. Mrs. Coleman was employed in Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Stephens County Hospital and Habersham Medical Center. She was formerly employed with Dr. McNeely's office in Toccoa with many years of service. She was president of the Licensed Practical Nurse Association and received Nurse of the Year Award.Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Jerry Elrod, Clarkesville, Janice and David Green, Demorest, and Sue and Robert Chastain, Mount Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, Lamar and Denise Coleman, Cornelia and Rex and Marsha Coleman, Mount Airy; son, Jimmy Coleman, Mount Airy; brother, Arvin Payne, Atlanta; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, from Glade Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Justus and the Rev. Chris Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends from 6–8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, and Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin.
