Lillian O. Johnsonof VestalLillian O. Johnson, 87, died on January 30, 2003 at Elizabeth Church Manor. She was born in Schenectady, N.Y. to Eric Olaf and Gerda Kindmark Olson. She graduated in 1937 from New York State College for Teachers and worked in the General Electric Research Laboratory until her marriage of 63 years to Frithiof Johnson, who survives her. She is also survived by daughters, Linnea C. Johnson, Bronxville, N.Y., Christine J. Brown and husband David Brown, Brackney, Pa.; son, Peter F. Johnson, Barnstable, Mass.; sister, Shirley and husband James Cheney, Worthington, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Huldah Olson, East Aurora, N.Y. She was predeceased by a son, Stephen; brothers, Arthur, Harry, and Robert Olson; and by a sister, Signe Sonnergren. She was a life member of the American Association of University Women, in which she served on various committees in the Schenectady and Southern New York branches, particularly as a member and chairman of the scholarship loan committee. She was a member and past president of the Shakespeare Dramatic Club, and served several terms on the Council of the Friends of the Binghamton University Libraries. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Binghamton and was active in civic volunteer groups, the Community Chest and General Hospital Auxiliary. She loved reading books, gardening, propagating African violets, and people. She was bright and lovely.Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Barber Memorial Home, 428 Main St., Johnson City, with the Rev. Mitch Trigger officiating. The family will receive friends at the Barber Memorial Home from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday and before the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church are suggested. Interment will be at a later time in the columbarium of the church.
