LOUISVILLE, Ga. - Lewis Claxton Williams, 83, loving husband of Gloria McCoy Williams and the late Phoebe Goodwin Williams, entered into rest Tuesday morning, August 19, 2014 at Pruitt Health Old Capitol. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, August 22, 2014 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Randy Walden and Jerry Sharpe officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Jefferson County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Lewis was one of twelve born to the late Annie Lamb Williams and the late Emmitt Roy Williams in Glascock County. He was a patriot and proudly served our country in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked in the textile industry for J.P. Stephens and Stapleton Garment Company, at Hadden's IGA in Wrens, and, his favorite job, a bus driver for Jefferson County and substitute driver for Thomas Jefferson. Lewis was a homebody and loved the outdoors. He could be found working in his yard, planting shrubs, trees and flowers or sitting in the swing enjoying nature. He had a passion for cars, owning up to five at one time, and making sure they were well-kept and clean. Lewis loved his family beyond all else and was most content in their presence. Lewis was also preceded in death by seven siblings, Louise Carter, Roy Williams, Lonnie Williams, Doak Williams, Sarah Sloan, Infant George Williams and Infant Lawana Williams. Other survivors include his sons, Michael L. Williams Sr. (Susan) of Vidette, and Matt W. Williams (Cassie) of Thomson; two stepdaughters, Gwen Shealy (Mike) of Evans, and Kay Spinks of Augusta; two brothers, Ernest Williams (Elizabeth) of Dade City FL, and Raymond Williams (Susan) of Dearing; two sisters, Ruby Johnson of Ackworth, and Laura Williams of Louisville; five grandchildren, Michael Williams, Jr., Joshua Williams, Megan Williams, Brittany Williams and Amber Williams; two step grandchildren, Craig Hooks and Lisa Lines Smith; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Lester Hadden, Craig Hooks, Kenneth McCoy, Joshua Williams, Michael Williams Jr., and Rodney Williams.
