MARTINEZ, Ga. - Lewis Edward "Ed" Carter, 66, entered into rest on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 2, 2009 in the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Kirk Bozeman officiating. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his father, Harold Carter. Ed lived in this area all his life. He was a loving and devoted husband and dad. He worked as a pilot for 41 years for several organizations retiring from McKnight Construction Company. He always said about flying that "it beat working for a living". He was an excellent woodworker, making many toys over the years for his children. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 33 years, Bonnie Carter; children, Dan (Ashley) Carter, Lexington, Kentucky, Jeff Carter, Atlanta, Laura (Justin) Coleman, Alpharetta, Georgia; grandson, Jackson "Jack" Carter; mother, Bessie Lee Carter, Martinez; brother, Gene (Betty) Carter, Grovetown; sister, Carolyn Spencer, Martinez and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Emory Heart Failure Research; Heart Transplant and VAD Program, Emory University Hospital, Attention: Laura Jacobson, Program Director, 1364 Clifton Road Suite C611, Atlanta, Georgia 30322.
