<br> -->Lewis Calvin Davis SPARTANBURG, SC-- Sunset came for Lewis Calvin Davis, of 205 Woodview Avenue on Sunday morning, July 27, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Calvin and Lula D. Davis. His education began in the Spartanburg County School System where he graduated from Carver High School in 1943. After graduation he joined and served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He then completed his undergraduate degree at Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC in 1949. Mr. Davis' employment career ranged from teaching at New Bethel High School, Woodruff, SC to retiring from the United States Postal Service in 1989. A faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Mr. Davis served as a Sunday School teacher, Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School under Deacon Green, Trustee, Treasurer of the Church for over 25 years, and Chairman of the Deacons Ministry. Due to ill health, Deacon Davis retired his chairmanship and was given the distinction of Chairman Emeritus. Before his health declined, Mr. Davis worked diligently with the local and state Brotherhood Associations, as a charter member of the Spartanburg Progressive Men's Club, a member of the Masons, Spartan Star Lodge #108, an active member of the Spartanburg County Baptist Association, and a member of the Palmetto Council of Boy Scouts of America. Survivors include a faithful, loving wife of 60 years, Katherine Patterson Davis of the home, one daughter, Cynthia D. Jeffers of Spartanburg, one-in-law, Charles E. Jeffers of Spartanburg; two granddaughters, Carmen R. Jeffers of Spartanburg and Candace A. Jeffers of Charlotte, NC; one great-grandson, Charles Lewis Jeffers of Spartanburg and one brother-in-law, John Fitzpatrick, Sr. of Spartanburg. The family will receive friends at the home.
