NASHUA -- Lester Headley Williams, 87, died April 9, 2010, after a courageous battle with heart disease.He was born on Vinalhaven Island, Maine, March 18, 1923, to Parker and Neva Williams.He was a graduate of South Portland High School.He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and Korea. He became a fighter pilot who flew over 300 combat missions off of more than two dozen aircraft carriers.After World War II, he graduated from the University of New Hampshire and joined the FAA, where he was an air traffic controller. In 1988 he assumed new responsibilities with the FAA evaluating state of the art equipment that would alter the course of flying in the future.He was also a licensed mortician and embalmer, working for the former Sullivan Brothers Funeral Home. He purchased the business in the late 1970s.Family members include his wife, Diane (McNeill) Williams of Nashua; children Cathy Blumberg of Illinois, Susan Fogle of Illinois, John Williams of Merrimack, Joan Foucher of Florida and James Williams of New Jersey; three stepchildren, Sheryle Hanson of Florida, Lee Ann Murray of Texas and Scott Keniston of Nashua; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother Parker Williams of South Portland, Maine.SERVICES: There will be a celebration of his life Thursday, April 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua.Memorial donations may be made to J.J.M.
