FORT MEADE -- Mr. Leonard Nelson of Fort Meade died of heart failure Sunday (Aug. 7, 2005) at Bartow Regional Medical Center. He was 73.He was born in Fort Meade on Jan. 26, 1932. He was an operator at U.S. Steel. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of St. Paul AME Church in Fort Meade.Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Corine Mitchell Nelson; sons, Raynard Nelson, Darryl Nelson, both of Tampa, Blaine Nelson, Fort Meade, Sam Mitchell, Bartow; daughters, Liza Taylor, Mildred Carter, both of Fort Meade, Mary Dawsey, Cora Dawsey, both of Bartow, Dolois Mitchell, Sheikeira Johnson, both of Lakeland; sister, Marian Nelson, Fort Meade; brothers, Walter Nelson, Rochester, N.Y., James Nelson, Savannah, Ga., Joseph Nelson, Fayetteville, N.C.; 26 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gause Funeral Home, 625 S. Holland Parkway, Bartow. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul AME Church in Fort Meade. Burial will be in Morrison Cemetery in Fort Meade.
