Funeral service for Lena Mae Brown, 72, Daytona Beach, who died May 5, 2008, will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, at Allen Chapel AME. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Herbert Thom- pson Funeral Home. Lena Mae Brown was born December 2, 1935, in Sanderson, Fla., to the late Mrs. Evalena Grant. She moved to Daytona at the age of 12, where she later met and married Oliver Brown, Jr. He preceded her in death as well as her sister, Johnny Mae Clark. Mrs. Brown was a former environmental service at Ormond Memorial Hospital. Lena was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed. She believed in working hard and giving back to the community. In her spare time she loved going to church, shopping, and keeping her grandchildren. She worked as a cafeteria technician at Bonner Elementary School. Lena Brown was a woman of integrity, generosity and demanded respect. Truth and honesty were encouraged by her example. Most importantly, Lena was a woman of God and she attended Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and was passionate about her faith. Lena leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Walter (Tina) Battles, McClenny, Fla., Eloise Humphrey Battles, Victor (Gloria) Brown, Shirley Brown, Patricia Brown, Daytona Beach, Oliver (Cheryl) Brown, III, Richmond, Va., Gwendolyn (Thaddeus) Brown, Daytona Beach. She also leaves behind four sisters: Bettie Grant Slaton and Doris Garvin, both of Daytona Beach, Wilhelmina Fletcher, Philadelphia, Pa., and Jessie Mae Battles, Arcadia, Fla.; grandchildren: Sherlotta Brown, Caroline Brown, Laurie Brown, Willina Austin, Jackie Brown, Andrika Young, Stacy Brown, Oliver Brown, IIII, Whitney Brown, Justin Brown, Victor Leo Brown, Jr., Sheena Brown, Eric Brown, Gus Brown, Marcus Brown, Jacquelyn Sims and Alvin Sims; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
