ANDERSON, Lena25 Jan '14 - Lena Thompson Anderson completed 95 years 10 months and 20 days today. Starting out in Seattle, WA as the youngest of 7 children of Norwegian immigrants, she became a riveter on B-17s for Boeing Aircraft - the family business while her husband fought the war in the Aleutian and South Pacific islands with the Navy until joining the Air Force. They had a son while following the service to Hawaii, Great Falls, MT, California, and San Antonio, TX until reopening Palm Beach Air Force Base, in West Palm Beach in early '51. From there she raised her son alone while becoming a surgical technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach. She loved moving to Alachua County for her last 40 years of life. She compared Alachua to the 'small town' Seattle of her youth in the 20s. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside Cemetery, 10926 NW 39th Ave. Gainesville.
