BORDENTOWN - Lemma Belle Smith, 94, departed this life on Sunday, May 8, 2011, at home."Belle," as she was known, was born in Hopewell and educated in Hopewell public schools. She moved to Bordentown in the 1940s where she resided for more than 70 years.She was employed as an attendant at the New Jersey State Johnstone Training Center in Bordentown until her retirement in 1982 after 22 years of service. She also worked for a period of time at General Motors, Ewing Township.One of the oldest members of Shiloh Baptist Church of Bordentown she remained an active member all of her life. Throughout the years, Mrs. Smith served in the choir, as president of the Missionary Society, taught Sunday school, and most recently, as the chaplain of the women's auxiliary.She was predeceased by her husband, James D. Smith, after 65 years of marriage, her parents, William and Rosetta Guy Waldron, and siblings, Cornelia, Tom, Leroy (Pete) and Norene Waldron.She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Joanne Smith, one granddaughter, Cheryl Davis (Troy), all of Willingboro; six great-grandchildren; nieces, Tulane Jackson (Darrell) of Hamilton and Marilyn Steed (Leon) of Bordentown; sister-in-law, Joan Freeman of Trenton; nephews, Johnny, Charlton and Keith (Diane) Curry, Leroy and Theodore Ganges; nieces, Denyse Taswel, Tuere Dixon (Louis), Samille Steed and Kamilah Woodson (Corey); goddaughters, Laverne Hagerman and Darielle Milton; and several great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 104½ Elizabeth St., Bordentown, Pastor Archie McBride officiating. Calling hours are from 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church. Interment will be at Bordentown Cemetery, Bordentown. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service.
