Lee O. Smith, 77, of Rotterdam, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, with her loving family by her side. Lee was born in Schenectady on November 17, 1931, the daughter of the late Nicola and Elvira Battaglia DeGenova. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1951. She was employed as a secretary with the Schenectady City School District for 25 years and enjoyed working with the pre-K children. She retired in 1996. Lee was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for 60 years. She was also a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Women's Society and the Abruzzese Society. Lee enjoyed spending time with her family, enjoyed skiing during her high school years, the theater and was an accomplished artist and pianist. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by two brothers, Raymond DeGenova and Americo DeGenova. Lee is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Robert C. Smith; two sons, Robert C. Smith, Jr. and Michael D. Smith; two daughters, Sharon C. (Anthony) Tangarone and Karen V. (Victor) Murdock, all of Schenectady; one sister, Diana Califano (Walter) Suprunowicz of Niskayuna; two grandchildren, Paul Tangarone and Jackie Tangarone; several nieces, nephews, many friends, and special loving neighbors. A calling hour will be held Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady, NY 12303.
