DELMAR Lee Crandall Morris of Delmar and Murray Isle N.Y., died Tuesday, June 3, 2003. Lee was born April 13, 1928 in Belfast, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Mabel Eva Newell and the late Elwin Crandall. Additionally, she was the niece of the late Alden Chester Merrick and his late wife Marion Monroe Merrick. Mrs. Morris was a graduate of the Albany Academy for Girls and went on to attend college first at Ohio Wesleyan University then graduated from Potsdam State Teachers College. She obtained her masters of science degree at Russell Sage College. She started her 40-plus years in education as an elementary school teacher in Va. and continued on to work in various early childhood and elementary school settings. She was one of the first Head Start teachers in Albany and she spent the largest portion of her later career working for the East Greenbush School District. She was a proud member of the Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity, the Alpha Mu Chapter in particular, and received the Order of the Rose in honor of over 50 years of active participation. She was equally committed to the Mohawk chapter of the DAR. She held many jobs within the chapter including past regent and she was a member of the NYS DAR Officers Club. The National Society of the DAR recognized her for over 50 years of loyalty and devotion to God, home and country. Lee was a member of The Albany Panhellenic Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Women's International Education Society, Delta Kappa Iota Women's National Education Society, the Elsmere Fire Company Women's Auxiliary and the Delmar Progress Club. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Albany and, in later years, attended the First United Methodist Church of Delmar. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William Gordon Morris Jr.; children, Christy Lee Morris Greene (Mrs. Alan) of Dublin, N.H. and William G. Morris III (Sandra D.) of Potsdam, N.Y.; two brothers, Eli Monroe Newell of Alplaus, N.Y. and Ronald L. Newell of Glens Falls, N.Y.; cousin, Alden Chester Merrick Jr. of Albany; grandchildren, Brian A.E. Greene, Sarah E.S. Greene, William G. Morris IV, Marian Rosa-Lee Morris and George W. Morris; also survived by various nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Delmar, 428 Kenwood Ave., Delmar, Thursday, June 12, 2003 at a time to be announced. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
