Obituary of Lawrence Lee


LEE Lawrence Lee (Larry) went home to be with his Lord on Dec. 29, 2009. He was born in Chicago, IL on July 21, 1925 and came to Florida in 1943. He took the first Infantry Basic Training at Camp Blanding, Starke, FL and remained there training 2nd generation Japanese until he de-activated the camp in 1946 and soon after, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Technical Sergeant. While in the Army, Larry met and wed Emily Perry of Melrose, FL. They had three wonderful children, Kay, Chris, and Rusty. Emily died suddenly in 1981. In 1982, Larry married Joan Adams Chambliss. He often told anyone and everyone that the Lord had blessed him with two wonderful wives. After moving to Jacksonville, Larry served an apprenticeship as a Compositor at the Guild Press. Later, he worked several months in the ad alley of the Florida Times-Union. In 1955, he joined the Knight Paper Co. as a Printer and retired in 1986 as President and CEO of the then named Jim Walter Papers. Larry was ordained a Deacon of the Woodlawn Baptist Church and was sent from there to help build and start a church in Allendale. He served as Sunday School Superintendant and teacher in several churches in Jacksonville and the Beaches. He loved the Lord, the Bible, and enjoyed teaching. He was the teacher of the Enquirers class at Beach United Methodist Church for several years before his demise. He is survived by his wife Joan and three children, Kay (Mike) Laird of Keystone Heights, FL, Chris (Sandra) Lee of Keystone Heights, FL, and Rusty (Vivian) Lee of Port Charlotte, FL; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; step-daughter, Denise Brymer of Orange Park, FL and one step-grandson. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9th at Beach United Methodist Church, with Rev. Carmen Johns officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund at Beach United Methodist Church.
