HOMEWOOD Laura Phyllis Brown, age 70, of Homewood, died April 19, 2012, at Fayette Long Term Care. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church with Bro. Gary Cargile officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Nelson Funeral Home of Fayette directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton and Lougene Cargile Brown, and her infant brother, Gary Wilson Brown.Survivors include her brother, Wesley Brown (Margaret) of Fayette; her niece, Carla Crawford (Joel) of Northport; and a host of relatives and friends.Miss Brown was born Sept. 23, 1941, in Fayette. She graduated from Fayette County High School in 1959 and attended the University of Alabama. She was a histopathology tech for many years.She was a very strong, independent, and intelligent woman. She enjoyed reading, photography, and doing political research.Pallbearers will be Ronnie Cargile, Rick Cargile, Greg Cargile, Ted Brock, Wright Miller, and Joel Crawford.
