Laura "Betty" (Blatchley) Guimond, 85, formerly of Southington, died Nov. 9, 2008 at Plainville Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Edmond Guimond. Born Feb. 25, 1923, in Meriden, to the late Charles and Minnie (Oberempt) Blatchley, she had been a longtime Southington resident. She was employed at Hoyt Manufacturing for more than 20 years. She was a parishioner of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Southington, an altar guild communion assistant, a member of the Women's Guild, and a charter member of the Apple Valley Southington chapter of the A.A.R.P. and Calendar House. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who never forgot a birthday, an anniversary or a get-well wish. She loved Irish music, was an avid gardener and loved to travel. She is survived by her four sons and their wives, William and Janet Alden, of Bristol, Richard and Linda Alden, of Middletown, Robert and Pamela Guimond, of Meriden, and Gary and Susan Guimond, of Bristol; her five grandchildren, Tiffany Mailhot, and her husband, Michael, of Meriden, Heather Radiewicz, and her husband, James, of Middletown, Christine Caldrello, and her husband, William, of Waterford, Erin Judd, and her husband, Jeffery, of Southington, and Jeffery Alden, of Haddam; and seven great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Jackson Mailhot, Jenna and Camille Caldrello, Abagail and John Radziewicz, and Gabriel Judd. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Frederick Blatchley and Robert Blatchley. The family wishes to thank Joan Moss, her beloved friend, Dr. Craig Bogdanski, the entire staff at Plainville Health Care Center, and Hospice of Central Connecticut for their loving and kind care provided to their mother. Funeral services were held Nov. 12, 2008, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Southington. Burial followed in South End Cemetery, Southington. Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 232 Bristol St., Southington, CT 06489.
