Obituary of Laura-Alice Baker


NEW ALBANY BAKER, LAURA ALICE (COMPTON), passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005. Laura was born in Greenville, IN, on October 24, 1915. She was a lifelong member of Chapel Hill Christian Church, a 1932 graduate of New Albany High School and a member of Gamma Chi Sorority and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was the widow of Howard L. "Pete" Baker. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Jessie (McCory) Compton; her twin sister, Georgia C. McCutchan; and her brother-in-law, Wade McCutchan. She is survived by her nieces, Alice Beeker (Stephen), Gail Folsom (Randy) and Julie Beeker-Wirayani (Yani); her nephew, Bruce Beeker; her great-nephews, Wade and Grant Folsom and Yani Beeker; her great-niece, Yana Rose Beeker; and her dear friends, the Scott family, especially Donald and Joyce, who gave so much enjoyment to her life. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Christian Church in Borden, IN, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Oak Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage those wishing to remember Laura to make a memorial to Chapel Hill Christian Church in Borden.
