Mr. Larry William Edwards, 61, a resident of Lumberton, died Thursday afternoon, August 6, 2009, in Southeastern Medical Center. He was born in Chatham county, Georgia on January 9, 1948; a son of Joseph Jackson Edwards and the late Rosa Juanita Bishop Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a member of the Savannah Baptist Center in Savannah, GA, a truck driver with ProBuild in Nichols, SC, a life member of the VFW #670 in Fayetteville and the Rolling Thunder Chapter One in Fayetteville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving two tours of duty, and a former law enforcement officer for some twenty plus years. Survivors are his wife, Janet Murray Edwards; a son, Larry Williams Edwards II; two daughters, Lori Benjamin all of the home, and Christina Edwards of Lumberton, his father, Joseph Jackson Edwards of Springfield, GA; four brothers, James and Jackie Edwards, both of Charleston, SC, and Bobby and Carl Edwards both of Guyton, GA; two sisters, Carol Campbell of Newington, GA, and Betty Zipperer of Guyton, Ga; five grandchildren, Brittany, T.J., Dustin, Janie, and Alex. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters of the Rolling Thunder Chapter, and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Bertie Mae Edwards. The family received friends on Sunday evening, August 9 from 7-9 at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at 136 Ridgefield Dr. A funeral service was held on Monday, August 10, 2009 at the Biggs Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Wayne Patterson officiated. Interment followed in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.
