Larry T. Smith, 89, widower of Velma Burton Smith, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, in Reidsville, N.C. Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late T. Miller and Essie Furr Smith. Veteran: U.S. Navy during World War II. Retired: North Carolina Civil Aeronautics. Survivors: A daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Tom Balsey, of Reidsville; sisters, Sara Livington and Ruth Bowers, both of Newberry; and two grandsons. Predeceased: A daughter, Linda Smith; and a sister, Margaret Boozer. Memorial service: Saturday at First Baptist Church of Cary. Burial: Sunday, in Reidsville. - Whitaker Funeral Home.
