He was veteran of the U S Army. He was a former employee of the Buncombe County Board of Elections for several years.He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. Smith and Cora Durham Smith Baten; brothers, Earl and Tommy Smith; nephew, Robert Smith.Surviving family include, daughters, Ovie Carletta Smith and First Sgt. active duty U.S. Army JoiAnessa Smith; sisters, Catherine Smith "Poochie", Reba Boyd and Iris Smith; brothers, James Smith "Sonny" and James Baten "Lil Sonny"(Turkessa); several grandchildren; other relatives and friends.A memorial service will be 12 noon, Friday, Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends will pay tribute to Larry at the service. Family will receive friends at the home of his sister Reba Boyd, 66 Eastview Ave., 28803.
