LANIER RICHARD LEE LANIER, 81 of Jacksonville, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Mr. Lanier was born on January 11, 1932 in High Point, North Carolina and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1951. He served in the United Sates Air Force from 1951 to 1955 then entered the Florida Air National Guard in 1956, retiring in 1989. Mr. Lanier was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church and a Thirty-Second Degree Mason. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul Penny Lanier and Ruth Sammons and sister, Betty Jane Smiley. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Lanier; a sister, Ann (Frank) Campbell; a daughter, Vickie (Bill) Rogers; two sons, Keith (Deidre) Lanier and David (Patty) Lanier, both of Jacksonville; and three granddaughters: Lindsey (Jeremy) Evans, Sydney Lanier and Perry Lanier. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Northside Presbyterian Church, 1901 Leonid Road, Jacksonville with the Rev. Bert Swearingen presiding. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors will follow the service.
