<br/> <br/>LUCY HITTLE JACKSON --> LUCY HITTLE JACKSON, 91 LAKELAND - Lucy (Catherine) Hittle Jackson, 91, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2014, at Good Shepherd Hospice after a short illness. She was born in Marion County, Indiana, on April 23, 1923, to Chester and Edith Hittle. A 1941 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School (Indianapolis) in 1941, she attended college then put her education on hold to support the war effort. On March 24, 1950, she married Eric Stanley Jackson and together they raised 6 children. Returning to Indiana Central College (Indianapolis) in 1968, she graduated magna cum laude in 1971 (B.S. Elementary Education). In 1975 she earned her M.A. from the University of South Florida. Her work career began in 1943 as a lady welder at Marmon Herrington Company (Indianapolis). She welded and inspected small Army tanks that were parachuted to our armed forces during WW II. She also worked part time for Quote Magazine and became the youngest editor of a national magazine in 1944 at the age of 21. Relocating with family to Winter Haven, Florida, in 1972 she taught 6th grade at Inwood Elementary School and received Inwood's Teacher of the year award in 1982. She also taught evening college level English classes at the Lakeland College. Lucy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church (Winter Haven), the P.E.O., Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Senior Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi, and was a long standing member of the Winter Haven Public Library Board. She also participated in the Cathedral Choir and the Bach Festival Choral Group. Lucy was preceded in death by her first husband, Eric and is survived by her six children, Jean Drumm, Moira Hasbrouck, Douglas (Dale), Jill, Peter and Bruce (Juliette), along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Following Eric's death she was blessed to find love again and married Carroll Elder Teeter who also preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at 11:00 am at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven with a luncheon to be held afterwards. Her final resting place will be the Pentwater Cemetery (Pentwater, Michigan) where she vacationed with the family and spent many of her retirement years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winter Haven Public Library and the Good Shepherd Hospice.
