Lorraine Labine, born in 1937, daughter of Mike and Teeny, mother of Nicole, Ryan, Rachel, Taylor and Dallon, died on August 13, 1937 at 2910. Please consult the obituary here:
LORRAINE LABINE August 13, 1937 to October 18, 2011 God saw Lorraine getting weaker and relief from her infirmities was not to be so, He wrapped his arms around her and whispered Come with me. Lorraine accepted that invitation from the God she'd known and trusted since childhood and quietly left us on the morning of Tuesday, October 18, 2011. She has joined her beloved Stoney; her parents Mike and Teeny Vetter and a heavenly host of family and friends. Born on August 13, 1937 in Macklin, Sk to Michael and Florentine (Schimnosky) Vetter she was a younger sister for Verle (Cocks) and eventually an older sister to Bev and Melvin. Her early education was in Cactus Lake, Revenue and Lipsig. When she was about to enter Gr. 4 the family moved to Englefeld SK. were Lorraine graduated from Englefeld High School in 1955. In February 1956 she enrolled in St. Paul's Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1959 with a Diploma Nursing. That same year she successfully completed the requirements to become a Registered Nurse; an achievement of which she was justifiably proud. Lorraine's initial employment was at St. Paul's Hospital on the Children's Ward. Upon leaving SPH she pursued her career across Western and Eastern Canada eventually returning to Saskatoon in 1964 to earn a Diploma in Nursing Administration from the U of S and later in 1969, a B.S.N. with distinction from the U of S. College of Nursing. A career change, from Nursing Administration to Nursing Education took her to Swift Current as a Clinical Instructor with the Nursing Assistant Program. Not only was this a career change but a life changing move because here she met James Gladstone LaBine who became her husband and best friend in 1972. Throughout her life Lorraine was involved in choral music. First at Englefeld with the school glee club and the Holy Guardian Angels Choir; at St. Paul's School of Nursing in various glee clubs and choirs and she lent her voice to choirs in the parishes were she resided. Her involvement in the parish activities included many hours of volunteer activities. Left to cherish her memories are Verle Cocks, Bev and Mel Vetter, nephew Brad (Tracy) Cocks their children Nicole, Ryan and Rachel, nieces Judy Kenny and Laureea (Pat) Kuprowski and their sons Taylor and Dallon along with the members of the LaBine family as well as a wide circle of aunts, cousins and friends. The family gratefully declines floral tributes and asks that donations be made to St. Paul's Hospital Foundation (1702-20th Street West, Saskatoon, SK S7M 0Z9) or St. Anne's Senior Citizens Village 2910 Louise St. Saskatoon SK S7J 3L8. Vigil for Lorraine will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23 at the Chapel of St. Anne's Home (2910 Louise St.) The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, at Holy Spirit Parish (114 Kingsmere Place) with Rev Father Ken Beck as the celebrant.
