February 4, 2004 Kenneth Paul Williams, 80, of Onondaga Hill, departed this earthly golf game on Wednesday, February 4, at Community General Hospital to join departed friends and family and play on Heaven's grandest greens. Mr. Williams celebrated his 80th birthday on January 4. His wife Mary E. Williams died three years ago. They were married for 53 years. Ken was born in Richland, New York, to Reverend Manford and Carrie (Sherman) Williams. He graduated Phoenix High School Class of 1941 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. Mr. Williams served on submarines in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon discharge, he returned to Central New York, married Mary Skalko in 1947, and worked for GE constructing the first television sets. He joined his in-laws, Dmytro and Natalia Skalko, in the restaurant business, working at the Hub Restaurant on South Salina Street. Ken and Mary bought the Velasko Inn on Onondaga Hill in 1953 and operated the restaurant until 1976. The Williams' developed Shady Brook Plaza and operated Shady Brook Soft Ice Cream for 25 years. Mr. Williams served a term as Councilor on the Town of Onondaga Town Board, was a longtime Treasurer of the Town of Onondaga Republican Committee, and had been a member of Tuscarora Golf Club for over 45 years. Mr. Williams enjoyed golfing, bowling and being with his grandsons. Mr. Williams is survived by: his daughter, Natalie Williams-Dardaris of Onondaga Hill; his treasured grandsons, Nick and Noah Dardaris of Onondaga Hill; brothers, Philip of Phoenix, Coy of Pennellville, Ronald of Oswego and South Carolina, Clive of Central Square, Louis of Pennellville, and Timothy of Syracuse; sister, Tamsie (Gene) Wolfe of Central Square; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Williams was predeceased by his sisters, Vilma Vanderveer, Vina Spalding, and Elnora Windhausen, and brother, Manley Williams. Calling hours are Sunday, February 8, 4 to 8 p.m. at Butler Badman Funeral Home, 4504 West Seneca Turnpike, Onondaga Hill. Services will be held Monday, February 9, 11 a.m. at Onondaga Hill Presbyterian Church, 4797 Makyes Road, Onondaga Hill. There will be a spring interment. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Tiger Lacrosse, Inc., c/o Pat Barry, 3921 Bailer Road, Syracuse, New York 13215. Mr. Williams' grandsons are participants in the program.
