KAYJOHNSON, 63Polk Co. School Board LAKELAND - Kay Johnson died of lung cancer Sept. 12, 2007 at the age of 63 at Good Shepherd Hospice Home in Auburndale. She was born on June 15, 1944 in Lakeland. Kay was a Polk County School Board English teacher for 31 years. She was also a peer teacher, a gifted student English teacher and chairman of the English department at Lake Gibson Middle School. She was a published poet and a guest column writer for The Ledger. Kay graduated from Lakeland Senior High School. She was a cheerleader, homecoming queen candidate, & a calendar girl. She graduated from the University of South Florida in 3 years. Kay was preceded in death by her daughter, Nichol Johnson. She is survived by her husband Valse Johnson, her niece Julie Scott, her sister Suzy Hyatt, her aunt, Jean Burdette, and a bunch of loving friends. Memorials may be made to the Kay Johnson Scholarship Fund, Harrison School of the Arts, Lakeland, Florida. A celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church on Lake Morton, Friday, Sept. 21st at 3:30 p.m.
