Obituary of Kay Carter


CARTER, Kay Died on 24 October 2004 in Ottawa after a short illness caused by pulmonary fibrosis which led to respiratory failure. Born in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, England. She finished school at 14 and got herself her first job as a dictaphone typist at MGM. She subsequently worked in the photo lab at the U.S. base in Ruslip. For two years after World War II she served as a member of the Women's Auxiliary Airforce (WAAFS). In 1949 she met Bill Carter, the love of her life, and they married on 31 March 1951. The following year they emigrated to Canada and after 6 years in Toronto they returned to England and built their first house in Rickmansworth. In 1968 Kay and Bill returned to Canada and settled in Watford, Ontario where they built their second house and Kay worked as a secretary at the local high school. Bill died at the tragically early age of 59 of a heart attack. Kay continued to live in Watford until 1990 when she moved to Ottawa to be closer to family. Kay leaves a daughter Kim (Gord), a son Dana (Sylvie) and a granddaughter Lindsey Michelle Carter and her sisters Melissa and Jessica. Her four brothers, Joe, Len, George and Mick Carvey and her sister Mabs live in England. Kay and Bill are driving through the Rocky Mountains on their way to Kelowna in their 1954 turquoise and cream Nash Metropolitan - together forever. Be happy mom. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 315 McLeod Street on Wednesday October 27, 2004 from 5 p.m. until service in the Chapel at 6 p.m. Kay will be buried with Bill in Watford, Ontario.
