OWENS Kathy Bernard Owens, 64, passed away on February 17, 2013 after a long battle with chronic illness. Despite her petite stature, loved ones always knew her to be a fighter, and she proved them right every day during these past several years, until she was called to God's kingdom where she is finally at rest. Born in Kingsport, TN, she graduated from Englewood High School, in Jacksonville where she lived with her husband of 46 years, William C. Bill Owens, Sr. Kathy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and she will be greatly missed by her sons William C. Billy Owens (Melisa) and Brian T. Owens (Angela), and her precious grandson William C. Owens III. Kathy and Bill enjoyed many great travel adventures, especially their trips out West and time spent in Hawaii. The family will fondly recall all the wonderful times spent at their home on the St. Mary's River, which Bill built for Kathy and where she enjoyed hosting family cookouts and parties. Kathy grew up in a large family, and was predeceased by her parents Claude T., Sr. and Ruby Bernard; a brother, Claude T. Tommy Bernard, Jr.; and a sister, Sally S. Bernard. She will be greatly missed by her surviving sisters, Martha J. Sutherland and Ruth Ann Fitzgerald (Joe), several nieces and nephews, and an extended family and her friends. Graveside services will be tomorrow (Saturday), March 2, 2013, at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery, 4750 Palm Valley Rd., Ponte Vedra Beach, FL at 11:00, with Jim Bird, Senior Pastor of Ft. Caroline Christian Church officiating. The family asks that any donations be made to the McGraw Center for Caring (Hospice) on San Pablo Road.
