ObituaryDr. Kathryn (Kay) Haney Godwin, 81, of Shell Point Retirement Community, Ft. Myers, FL., passed away on December 8, 2003. She was born July 14, 1922 in Bergholz, OH. Kay served her country with distinction in the U.S. Navy during WWII and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. She was employed for 30 years at the University of Maine, serving 10 of those as Director of the Bureau of Public Administration. Kay earned her Doctor of Educational Administration degree there in 1989. While at the University, she developed the concept of the Senior Executive Service for the State, directed the New England Management Institute, had total responsibility for State of Management internship Program, and helped establish the Margaret Chase Smith Center for Public Affairs. Upon her retirement in 1998, Kay moved to Shell Point Retirement Community, where she became a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance as well as an active member of the Shell Point Community. She leaves behind a loving extended family there, including close friends Val Zipfel, Jean Ormsby, and Elsie Porter. Kay is survived by her children Robert Christopher (Chris) and Kimberly; siblings Warren, Raymond, Mary Jane (Carson), Janice (LaPointe), and James Haney; daughter-in-law Lori; and grandsons Mark and Scott. A memorial service is pending at the Village Church at Shell Point, and Kay will be interred in the family cemetery in Sudlersville, MD. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Ft. Myers, FL. 33908. Arrangements by Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
