Born June 21, 1922, in Westerly, R.I., Kathryn grew up in Quincy and Milton. She was the daughter of Joseph and Katharine (Harrigan) Baggs. Kathryn graduated Milton High School (1940) and attended Burdett College. She was a proud veteran of World War II, having served as a U.S. Navy WAVE (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) in Lakehurst, N.J.
