Obituary of Kathleen Smith

SMITH, Kathleen Audrey Born March 14, 1923 in Dufferin Municipality Manitoba. Passed away peacefully in her home in Ottawa on Sunday, June 6, 2004 "aunt Audrey" as she was known to both friends and family, spent her working career with the Federal Government and her free time assisting those in need of a little "helping along". A fiercely independent woman with a strong mind, an iron will and a loving heart will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. Audrey was orphaned at 11 years of age along with her 8 year old brother Arthur (deceased May 2003) during the Great Depression. Both children left the farm in Carmen, Manitoba to be brought up by their aunt Dottie and uncle George Kime along with their daughter Lillian in Winnipeg. Audrey left Winnipeg at the age of 17 to start her career with the Federal Civil Service in Ottawa, where she worked for 40 years. Audrey leaves behind a wealth of good and dear friends, a niece, Lynda Palahniuk and her family in Kelowna, B.C., a nephew Alan and his family in Port Perry, Ontario and a cousin Lillian in Lake Havasu, Arizona. Funeral service will be held at St. Martin's Anglican Church, 2120 Prince Charles Road, Ottawa, Ontario, on Saturday, June 12 at 11 a.m. Should friends desire, donations may be made to her favourite service organization, Ottawa West Community Support, 1137 Wellington St., Ottawa, Ontario, K1Y 2Y8.
