SIMPSON Kathleen Fitzpatrick Simpson, age 89, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 in Fairfield. Born in Flushing, Queens, December 4, 1920, daughter of the late Frank Fitzpatrick and Catherine O'Dowd Fitzpatrick she was a resident of Elmhurst Queens and Tribeca, Manhattan, before retiring to Westport for the last 10 years. Mrs. Simpson had been employed as the administrative assistant to the English Department chair of Queens College New York for 20 years. Her desk was a busy port of call for many students in the English department and elsewhere who enjoyed the Fitzpatrick legacy of hearty and informed political discourse with her. She was loved by all for her intuition and caring insight. Survivors include her children, Patricia Simpson, Robert and Lynette Simpson, Kathleen Lala, Lee and David Simpson-Immer, and Shauna and Patrick Flaherty. Her grandchildren Asher Ross, Trey Ross, Reed Immer, Gavin Immer, Carina Immer, Maeve Flaherty, and Liam Flaherty She was predeceased by her brother Gerard Fitzpatrick, and her sisters Sr. Mary Fitzpatrick, Ceilia Betts and Francis Evola. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at Assumption Church 98 Riverside Ave., Westport. Interment will follow in Mount St. Mary Cemetery, Queens, NY.
