SIMPSON, Kathleen "Kay" Ida(nee Fink)October 31, 1924 - July 25, 2011With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our much loved Mom, Grandma and Sister. Kay passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Agap Hospice, Calgary. Kay was predeceased by her devoted husband Chris one year ago on June 23, 2010. For fifty years, Kay and Chris were deeply in love and inseparable. We know that they are now dancing in each other's arms again. Kay will be forever loved and missed by her son Bryan (Adele), her daughter Linda, and her grandchildren Amanda, Nicolas and Chelsa. Kay was the youngest of nine children born to her Hungarian immigrant parents, Joseph and Mary Fink. She was born and grew up on the family farm near Plunkett, Saskatchewan. Kay is survived by her sisters Margaret Granton and Rose (Traug) Haichert; sisters- in-law Winnie Fink and Sheila Simpson; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sisters Mary Molnar and Annie Fink; brothers Joe (in infancy), Ernest, Steve and Joseph; brothers-in-law Steve Molnar, Frank Granton, Albert Simpson and Arthur Simpson; and sister-in-law Muriel Fink. Kay met and married Chris in 1960, and they made Calgary their home for over fifty years. Most everything they did was done together and they were seldom apart. Their interests included dancing, traveling, and socializing with family and friends. Kay especially cherished their involvement in square dancing with Dots & Dashers and later, pattern dancing with the Old Time Gliders at Confederation Park Seniors Centre. Kay's love of children reached beyond her own children and grandchildren. She generously opened her home and her heart for twelve years as foster-mother to over twenty newborn infants as they awaited their permanent adoptive homes. In addition, Kay took great joy in volunteering her time with many organizations including Girl Guides of Canada and Bethany Lifeline. Kay leaves behind the legacy of being the consummate friend. She taught us the importance of keeping in touch with friends, not only on special occasions, but always. Kay truly treasured her friends; she spoke of them so often. She was proud that she had maintained some friendships for over sixty years. We are so thankful for Kay's friends who provided a shoulder for her to lean on, especially over the past two years. The family is grateful for the care provided to Kay during her illness by the health professionals at Tom Baker Cancer Centre. In addition, we wish to thank the amazing staff and volunteers at Agap Hospice for their gentle and loving care of Kay during the last weeks of her life. Special thanks to Marlette Reed, Spiritual Care Coordinator at Agap Hospice. She has provided invaluable support and guidance to Kay and her family over the past two years, during both Chris and Kay's illnesses and after their passing. Marlette's compassion will never be forgotten. A private family Graveside Service will be led by Marlette Reed at a later date. Family and friends are invited to a casual gathering to celebrate Kay's life on Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the social room at Confederation Park Seniors Centre, 2212 - 13 Street N.W., Calgary. A reminder of this gathering will be published closer to that date. In lieu of floral or other tributes, the family requests that you consider donating in Kay's memory to Agap Hospice, 1302 - 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB. T2N 1B8. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca . FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM. Telephone: 403-297-0888.
