HOPKINSON, Dr.Kathleen (Kay) Rosemary, Margaret, (nee Brooks) "Our Mum" Of Ottawa, Ontario, on August 30, 2009, peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. She will be sadly missed by her devoted husband Ron of almost 45 years, and her children, David, Susan, and Colin. She was pre-deceased by her daughter Sara, and her father and mother David and Jean Brooks. She was cherished by her extended family. Many thanks to Jan, Elaine, and Lynn, who helped so much during her illness. Born July 31, 1937, in Poulton cum Spital Bebington, East Wirral, Chester County, England, she was raised in Richmond, Yorkshire, where her father David was Town Clerk for many years. After attaining her B.Sc. of Chemistry in 1960 and her M.D. in Medicine and Surgery in 1962 from the University of Edinburgh, she followed her parents to Africa, where she practiced medicine for many years in Chingola, Zambia, and ran a bush clinic for a population base of 1 million people. She met her husband in Zambia, where they both worked. They moved to Canada in 1975 with their four children. She was tireless in her service work for Rotary, especially in the field of youth and vocational service. Kay will be missed by many co-workers, fellow Rotarians, and patients at the Cancer Clinic of the Ottawa General Hospital and the Center-town Community Health Centre. A memorial service will be held on September 19. Friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service, 11:30 a.m., at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel (2500 Baseline Rd.).
